Aside from Aussie-isms like Legrope and Leggie, surf slang for leashes also include: Ding String, Surf Strap, Shot Cord, Kook Connector, Kook Cord, Sissy String, Dope Rope, Goon Strap.
That’s what anti-leashers said when the surf leash first appeared in line-ups back in the early ‘70s. Then Bob Nealy at XM | SURF MORE started innovating on that front around 1973 when he founded the company. XM introduced the first velcro strap (among other innovations) and more and more people joined the movement. Leashes made sense. By the mid-70s, most surfers were on-board. And not too long ago a Surfer Magazine poll found that 99% of surfers now wear leashes most of the time.
Comp is short for competition. The XM Comp premium leash is the all-around favorite leash cord strength/thickness for small to medium waves and competitive surfers. It’s on the thinner and lighter side and keeps your short board tethered while still feeling pretty free in the water.
All XM Premium Rail Savers are made by our highly trained XM artisans in our San Clemente, California, USA facilities. Some of our XM artisans have been with the brand over 30 plus years - now that's a whole bunch of experience, knowhow and wisdom that goes into your premium rail savers.
This 1 inch heavy duty premium detachable rail saver is specially designed to withstand all the major forces while using Comp and Ultra Comp Leashes. With unbreakable sewn-in XM Stainless Steel Swivels and 16 inch deluxe leash cord. Using premium heavy duty webbing and velcro to meet our high quality standards.
Did we mention that XM leashes are all made by hand. By real people. Here in America? Hopefully that should even put a little more pep in your cutback. Some of our artisans have been part of the XM | SURF MORE family over 35 years. All this experience, dedication, and love goes into every leash made here in San Clemente, California since 1973. Yep that's almost 50 years of premium high quality dedication and heritage. A legacy of quality and craftsmanship unmatched by anyone in the industry.
All XM premium and ultra-premium leashes now come with XM's latest in cord technology. XM POWER CORD is manufactured by XM in its USA, California facilities and benefits from over 30 years of XM urethane cord extrusion research and development using XM's proprietary formula, process and equipment. Of course, all our premium and ultra-premium leashes have XM’s killer, unmatched warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for 3 whole years from the original purchase date. (Abuse, inappropriate use, natural wear and fin cuts not applied)... But how about those 3 years?! We feel so strongly about our premium high quality materials and craftsmanship we back it up like no other. A WARRANTY SO EPIC IT'S UNMATCHED BY ANYONE IN THE INDUSTRY.
Want to know why XM should be your leash of choice? Let me count the ways!
1. Replaceable cords and every other leash part - ankle straps, rail savers, swivels, etc… How many perfectly good leashes have you thrown away after your cord broke from a fin cut or…? Try getting parts for other brand leashes - you cannot. I’ve tried.
2. Made in the USA!
3. Amazing friendly above and beyond customer service
4. Top quality products and parts - no one is better.
Hi Bryan. We are thrilled to hear that you appreciate our replaceable cords and other parts, as well as our commitment to being made in the USA. We take great pride in providing top quality products and exceptional customer service. Thank you for your support and happy surfing!
I recently bought four of these rail savers to fix my old Dakine leashes. They are a perfect fit for the regular leashes with 8mm swivels. They will not work on comp leashes tho. Thanks XM for giving me the option to fix instead of trash! Mahaloz!
You're welcome! Thanks for your feedback and stay safe out there.
